Tata Nano EV 2024: After years of speculation, Tata Motors may finally bring back the Tata Nano as an all-electric car in 2024, targeting an affordable electric vehicle segment.
Originally unveiled as a concept in 2010, Tata’s vision of an electric Nano didn’t take off. Later in 2015, a partnership between Tata and Jayem Automotives resulted in a retrofit electric version of the Nano, named the Neo EV.
While a limited batch of 100 units was delivered to fleet operators, it was never made available for the general market.
Interest in a Nano EV remained alive, especially when the retrofitted Nano EV by Electra EV was gifted to Ratan Tata in 2022, sparking renewed enthusiasm.
With the growing demand for affordable EVs, the timing seems ideal for Tata to reintroduce the Nano EV at a competitive price.
Potential Price of the Tata Nano EV
With declining battery and electric component costs, Tata Motors has already made strides in reducing prices of its electric cars, such as the Tiago EV, which starts at ₹7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Given the trend, industry experts anticipate that a Nano EV could debut at an attractive price point of around ₹6 lakh, making it one of the most affordable EVs in the Indian market and a strong contender against models like the MG Comet EV.
Expected Range and Features of the Nano EV 2024
Designed primarily for city driving, the Nano EV is expected to offer a practical range of 200-220 km on a single charge.
By utilizing a compact frame, lightweight electric motor, and a battery pack of under 20 kWh, Tata aims to maximize efficiency and performance.
If the Nano EV arrives with these features and an affordable price, it could redefine the compact EV market in India, providing a low-cost yet reliable urban mobility solution for everyday commuters.
